Here you are, stroking your little ones soft, delicious hands. You’re looking in wonder with your nose pressed up against hers, right into her eyes. What an absolutely amazing sight she is to behold! I don’t think that soft, fuzzy feeling you get when you gaze into your baby’s eyes, ever wears off. Hold onto these memories, and cherish them for all your days, as this special time passes all too quickly.
Your baby will be laughing, crawling and jumping up and down on your bed, before you know it! These special moments are often referred to as milestones. Okay, well perhaps not the jumping on your bed part! But milestones are critically important achievements in your baby’s life, and they signal when a new developmental stage has been mastered.
In the excitement of looking forward to your baby reaching each milestone, both big and small, it can be tempting to wonder why your baby hasn’t yet done X, or hasn’t achieved Y. Stop it. Please. Stop it, right now!
A baby’s development depends on a colossal combination of factors, and she’ll develop at her own pace, in her own time. Of course, if you’re concerned about your child’s development, it’s important to see a health care professional. But as for falling into the ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ trap, where you’re so busy measuring what other children are doing, or not doing, relax. Life’s a journey and should be celebrated.
